A downloadable game

In late 1903,  the Butte, Montana Inter Mountain newspaper published what may have been the world's first collectible card game. The game was never named, but it was clearly based on the sensational memoir published the previous year by Butte resident Mary MacLane. A new card was published every day for 56 days, starting on 21 October and ending on 10 December, skipping Sundays (of which the Devil, a frequent guest in MacLane's memoir, would surely approve). The very first day included a "game board" featuring prominent locations around Montana and beyond. The rules have been lost to history but it is clear that the game's complexity increased over time. Presented here is the card from Monday, November 10, about half-way through the project. The 56 card total suggests that someone at the Inter Mountain intended to print these as a complete deck, but whether that ever happened is also unknown.

Nicely done! For a moment I thought I'd have to update the first-ever MM biography I just published. Title=username here. ;)

Thank you! Yeah I just grabbed a random issue. Link to your biography please!

https://www.marymaclane.com/ has got links and a whole lot more - almost all t0he way updated. But as for Amazon - https://www.amazon.com/Mary-MacLane-Herself-Biography-Michael/dp/B0DYDJYK45 . How did you find out about MM?

This is so cool! Is there somewhere we can find the complete set and the gameboard?

Thanks, I'm glad you like it. This is an entry in the Imaginary Cards Game Jam so I'm afraid the complete set only exists in our collective imagination.

oh, I didn’t see it was a jam entry. Really cool concept.
